Thank you to everyone who signed and supported the campaign. We are delighted to announce that the new management at the Orphanage and the Pattaya Orphanage Trust have reached an agreement that will enable the Trust to continue to support the Orphanage with confidence and enthusiasm.
Description/History:
The Pattaya Orphanage Trust supported Fr Ray Brennan and his work with
orphaned, abandoned and destitute children for more than 20 years. Since his
death in 2003 we have supported the Fr Ray Foundation, created to continue
his work with Thai children.
Through the Trust’s sponsorship programme many kind supporters have
provided funds for the Orphanage and taken a personal interest in the welfare of
Fr Ray’s children.
Fr Ray’s Orphanage – the Pattaya Orphanage – and his School for Deaf Children
which have been managed for 30 years by Fr Ray and the Fr Ray Foundation –
are legally a separate diocesan charity, the Pattaya Children Support
Foundation. Since January 1st 2008 the PCSF has assumed the responsibility
of managing both directly, ending the management role of the Father Ray
Foundation.
Pattaya Orphanage Trust had a formal written agreement with the Father Ray
Foundation covering the use of the funds we supply and child protection, and
setting out ways in which these can be assured. Without this agreement our
status as a UK registered charity could be at risk. We seek a similar agreement
with the PCSF.
The PCSF has so far refused to discuss signing such an agreement, and have
failed to respond to a letter sent by the Trustees of Pattaya Orphanage Trust as
long ago as November 2007.
The petition calls on the Trustees of the Pattaya Children Support Foundation to
negotiate a formal agreement with the Pattaya Orphanage Trust enabling the
flow of funds to resume so that the children in the Orphanage can continue to
be properly looked after.
